Excursion destinations within the region
Worth seeing & interesting!
The Saalachtal in Salzburg is not only one of the most popular holiday regions in Austria; it also offers many worthwhile excursion destinations in the surrounding area. The central location of our Dürnberggut in St. Martin bei Lofer is ideal for visiting the attractions listed below. We are certain there is something for you and your kids!
Triassic Park - 16 km
The starting point for this excursion is the valley station of the Waidringer Steinplatte; from here you ascend by cable car into pre-historic times! Lifelike recreated dinosaurs, an observation platform suspended almost 70 metres above an abyss and many interesting facts about an era 200 million years ago will not only enthral children, but also their parents!
Familienland Pillersee - 27 km
Austria’s highest rollercoaster is an attraction for all visitors to this theme park in the heart of the Pillerseetal. And there are also many more attractions: A pirate ship, an aeroplane merry-go-round and wild rafts ensure action and excitement for both old and young. An indoor climbing hall with a boulder area and a Dead Sea salt grotto enrich the range of attractions.
Zell am See - 31 km
This beautiful mountain town situated next to the lake of the same name is inviting for a stroll along the lake promenade where souvenir hunters and culinary connoisseurs will not miss out. If you wish, you can view the impressive backdrop of the Kitzsteinhorn from a different perspective here, and take a trip on the MS Schmittenhöhe across the Zeller See.
Kitzbühel - 40 km
A visit to the world-famous chamois city of Kitzbühel is worthwhile not only for its legendary Hahnenkamm ski race, where skiers from all over the world speed down the neck-breaking "Streif" ski run. The mix of Tyrolian tradition, high society, luxurious shops and a cosmopolitan atmosphere make a visit to Kitzbühel an absolute must! A visit to the Alfons-Walde museum is also a worthwhile tip.
Königssee - 45 km
The emerald-green Königssee lies idyllically imbedded between the Watzmann, Gotzenalm und Jenner mountains, and is amongst the most well-known excursion destinations in the Berchtesgaden region. The famous “Königssee echo” reverberates from the rock faces, whereby the boat trip to the pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä is certainly one of the highlights of this excursion.
City of Salzburg - 50 km
A visit to the enthralling festival city of Salzburg is a must! On the one hand, its fame is thanks to its many urban artworks, such as the Fortress Hohensalzburg, the cathedral, the palaces of Hellbrunn or Mirabell and the Pferdeschwemme (horse pool). On the other hand, the charming old city including Mozart’s birthplace in the famous Getreidegasse offers a special flair of its own.
Kehlsteinhaus - 50 km
This impressive building steeped in history on the mountain of Obersalzberg was constructed by the National Socialists (Nazis) in 1938 and provides a historic viewpoint at an elevation of 1,834 metres. The magnificent panoramic view across the Berchtesgaden region extends up to 200 kilometres when the visibility is good. You can stop for refreshments in the Kehlsteinhaus mountain-top restaurant.
